The first time I heard about Grounding, was on the “Bringing Home the Browns” Facebook page. One of the comments said to try using a “grounding blanket” to miraculously heal any ailment.
This was a really strong statement; so naturally, I took to Google and did a little research. Initially, I found a website that made a rather impressive video on the health and spiritual benefits of Grounding (being connected to the Earth) you can watch the video here
I continued to watch videos on the website and got the feeling I was being pitched yet another “life saving” product that will magically make all of my health complaints go away! So, I closed the window and went on with my life.
A couple of years went by and suddenly I noticed another post about Grounding on Facebook. A memory flickered across my mind and suddenly a light bulb lit up. This time, I was searching for ways to reduce inflammation because in my years of research, it appears that a significant number of chronic illnesses are linked with inflammation. Well, the post highlighted the main benefit of Grounding – reduced inflammation.
I then poured through website after website, reading as much as I could about personal experiences of Grounding, the scientific benefits and whether it really IS something to consider. Finally, I understood the theory, wrapped my head around the science and even dared to believe it might actually work. But there is only one way to know for sure…
So, I am going to be a guinea pig. For the next 30 days, I am going to stand bare foot on the ground, outside (come rain, shine or ice!) and write about it. I expect to write a short update every day, and I have to say that my expectations are not super high.
A few disclaimers:
I am aware that there is a lot of risks associated with walking along a public field – needles, bacteria, feces are just a few of the unwanted things I want my bare feet to come into contact. So, I will be choosing a patch of grass in my back garden to stand on, and will proceed to thoroughly wash my feet afterwards.
Do NOT try this for yourself and hold me responsible for any potential injury. If you want to follow my journey and try grounding too, do it at your own discretion.
Here is a run down of my personal health complaints:
- Chest Pains
- Aching knees (Arthritis)
- Frequent headaches
- Lower back pain
- Neck and Shoulder pain
According to the claims I’ve read, I should experience noticeable improvement on my symptoms quite rapidly. I have settled on TWO minutes.
So, for two minutes every day, I’m going to stand in my back garden in my bare feet. Then I’m going to write about it.
