Look who’s got hit by the writing bug!

After spending a few weeks binge-watching Netflix TV shows and Original movies, I got bitten by the writing bug.

In fact, I have started a new project that is totally unmarked territory for me. Screenwriting.

I don’t know why I haven’t taken a hand to screenwriting before? I watch far more movies than I read book and not only that, I am so PASSIONATE about movies!

A few years ago, I purchased Storyist – a writing software, and to my surprise, it has a program that helps you to format and write a screenplay! If you are a budding writer or would like to have a helping hand when writing something new, I really recommend this software.

Anyway, I read online that one page of script is usually about 1 minute of screen time. Currently, I have written 37 pages of my screenplay which means my “movie” could be 37 minutes long so far! This is incredibly exciting to me.

So, all my writing juices have been flowing into my screenplay, leaving this blog rather parched. My apologies. It does feel OH SO GOOD to be writing though.

I have the whole movie written out in bullet points. It’s just a matter of writing it properly now…the conversations are proving to be a little…challenging. There is so much less descriptive language in a screenplay and so much more talking! I’m not used to it!

I’ve taken my short novel from my 2013 NaNoWriMo participation as my inspiration. It was supposed to be a romance, but has wonderfully evolved into a romantic thriller.

I can’t even say anything humble like “it’s probably rubbish” because it’s got ME itching to write more and more. I can’t wait to see what’s happening next. (Yes, yes Im the author, I already know, but it’s just SO EXCITING to see it all play out! And sometimes, during a writing bash, your character just jumps off course and does something completely unexpected. Yes, your characters can have a mind of their own!) My husband had a read through my script and said “Wait! Where’s the rest? You can’t just end it there! Keep writing!” which is just about the biggest compliment he could give me.

Anyways, that’s where I am at the moment. So I am sorry I’m a little AWOL at the moment but until this screenplay is written I’ll be a little consumed by my characters.

Here’s a little sneak peek into my synopsis:

“It was just your simple love story. Two people meet, argue over mushy peas and inevitably fall in love. But what happens when all is not as it seems and unrequited love turns deadly? Throw in a chance encounter with a handsome stranger and chaos ensues. Will truth prevail? Or will Audrey succumb to a grisly fate? Only time will tell.”

It’s deliciously creepy, light-hearted and witty all-in-one.

If I don’t say so myself.

Laura
